Description
Offered here is a rare 18-inch blonde low-brow China head doll, dating to around 1890. She features a turned shoulder head with molded blonde curls, blue painted eyes, and a soft blush to her cheeks. Her porcelain lower arms and legs are intact and nicely glazed, attached to a later replacement cloth body with a defined waist and hips.
She wears a handmade two-piece brown jacquard gown with burgundy ribbon and red bead trim, along with vintage undergarments consisting of a blouse, petticoat, and pantaloons (all shown separately). The ensemble displays beautifully and complements her late Victorian appearance.
Provenance:
Previously cataloged by a recognized U.S. collector; her documentation and tag identifying the doll as “low-brow, turned head, excellent quality” accompany the piece.
Her notes state:
“Low brow, turned head, cloth body, excellent quality, purchased in 1987 for $500.00.”
— B1 notation from Mary Wagoner’s collection records
Please note: The original tag and inventory sheet list the height as 22 inches, but the doll measures approximately 18 inches in person.

Arms/legs: glazed china; stable and intact, with light age toning to painted boots
Body: later reproduction cloth body, firm and well-shaped
