Description
An impressive and highly decorative Corona Stoneware whiskey jug dispenser, featuring bold black transfer lettering reading “Whiskey” beneath a red transfer image of a Scottish distiller, with arched black lettering for “Edinburgh” and smaller “Estab. 1751.” The reverse bears the classic Crown over CORONA STONEWARE mark, indicating manufacture by the Corona Stoneware Company of Toronto, Ontario, active in the early 1900s.
This large two-tone jug is finished in tan and cream glazed stoneware, with a tapered neck, broad shoulder, and an original wooden spigot tap. These dispensers were used in bars and hotels for serving spirits on draft during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The embossed number “277” near the shoulder is a factory mold mark typical of Corona production.
A handsome, display-worthy survivor of North American distilling history and a rare example with strong, legible graphics.
Condition
Very good overall for its age, with honest wear and original charm.
No cracks, structural damage, or repairs.
A few minor glaze flakes and light surface scuffs consistent with age and handling.
Graphic remains well preserved with minor fading and age toning.
Original wood spigot intact and fits snugly.
Base shows typical scuffing and shelf wear from age.
A clean, sound, and collectible example of early 20th-century advertising stoneware.
